Living Vertically

Behold … and breathe

I was able to convince my family to an evening on the beach. Steal away.  Drive 48 minutes.  Eat food we wouldn’t tolerate any other place.  And we were rewarded with feet in the sand, warm water and a gentle breeze on the shore of this majestic fresh water Great Lake.   We all caught sight of a Tall Ship from Chicago (we imagined) — or a pirate ship if you’re six — that came into view and moved northward up the Lake.  It was like watching a beautiful collision from our private vantage point on this giant globe, as the ship  meandered innocently underneath the gradually exploding sunset.  Dozens of us witnessed, like we knew this was a rare and special gift, the sky ablaze, becoming a spectacular living painting created by the author of Love.   We all marveled.  The moment was priceless.

In these frightening times, we pause and remember that we serve a God who loves endlessly and has given us a world full of beauty to behold.  Maybe, for this moment, a child’s splash can wash away all worry.
