About Me

Life’s a journey, right? A series of stories that move us forward in our relationships with others. Moving forward sometimes means growing closer, and sometimes it means separating – either emotionally or physically, or both.

I like to think about my life as having been driven forward though collisions. These are disruptions, changing seasons and new chapters that are ignited by major events or decisions.

Driven by collisions.

If you knew me as a teenage driver, you’d laugh at that metaphor and agree it’s a perfect title for my memoir. I may have banged up a car or two. But it’s also an apt expression since I spent many years in a a career in the automotive advertising world and I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit.

For 25 years I served in major advertising agencies in Detroit, Chicago and Los Angeles. I grew to leadership roles and completely adored that creative and exhilarating world. The insight and creative exploration into the stories behind our clients’ business was the perfect place for this girl to thrive as an executive, and get a bit twisted as a young woman.

Today in my 50’s I love exploring the stories of life more than ever. And I’m better at it because I have evolved. I have 3 amazing children who are on great paths for their lives; my single biggest accomplishment. (PS: it is entirely because of God that they are who they are today.)  I have failed at one marriage, but the learning wasn’t wasted. I am now 16 years married to a man who has taught me how to know myself, learn about the character of God and the truth of unconditional love.

In all that mess I also have four more remarkable children and their families who know me as a bonus mom and Mimi.

Through relentless honesty we have all drawn closer.

I believe we’re on this planet to learn how to be in real relationship with others; to be self-less while being purposeful in figuring out who we’re meant to be. Each one of us is living out our story.  A great journey indeed.

My husband and I work through all these trials and blessings together. Steve took me to see Hamilton in 2018 and this picture is a rare dressed-up version of us. I like this shot because there’s a chop saw in the background, and often the work we do involves power tools; both on our insides and outsides. Mastering the most effective tool for the job takes practice, for sure.
